What is the next great challenge in our life in Christ life.  Often it shows up in the circumstances that we face at other times it comes from conversations that we have both oral and written and sometimes the challenge shows up in the still small voice of the Beloved.  Of late it has shown up to me on the pages of one of my literary mentors, Dallas Willard.  His words have stretched me when he has challenged his readers with the thought that Jesus call on our lives is not just to have faith in Jesus, but to gain the faith of Jesus.

The image that comes to my mind is centered on one of the gospel stories of Jesus fast asleep in the bow of the boat in the midst of the storm-tossed Sea of Galilee.  In a panic the disciples roused him from his slumber.  Awakened, he calmed the storm and then castigated their lack of faith.  Rather than repent, they were awe-struck at “what manner of man” Jesus was.  It tells me that the faith of Jesus is revolutionary faith and the kind of faith I want in my life.

Therefore, I am eager for faith that fears nothing because of the intimacy with Jesus.  I admit that I carry fears from false narratives left over from childhood, but I ask the Holy Spirit to teach me the truth so that I live by the truth of Jesus’ faith.  I want to be able to peacefully sleep “in the midst of the rocking boat.”
